Albemarle Pediatric Asthma Coalition

Update 2008 "Managing Acute Asthma in Children"

Cleveland County Asthma Coalition

Event Title:
No Wheeze Asthma Camp
Dates: Monday, July 14 - Friday, July 18, 2008
Time: Week-long camp.
Location: Dover Foundation Family YMCA - 411 Cherryville Road, Shelby, NC 28150
Description:

Asthma campers are blended with YMCA field trips, sports activities, etc.  A registered nurse is on site each day.  The camp fee is $75/week.  Scholarships are available.

Target Audience: Children ages 7-12 with asthma.  Priority is given to first time campers and those who may not be able to participate in a traditional camp setting.

Event Title:
Building Cultural Competency for the 21st Century

Description:

This opportunity, funded by the NC Asthma Program, is intended to engage individuals from asthma coalitions, non-profit agencies, and educational institutions in capacity building for reaching minority communities. Ken Babineaux, Education Consultant with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (DPI), Raising Achievement and Closing Gaps Section, will present the workshop. Harnett County Asthma Coalition

Event Title:
Region 3 Asthma Workshop

Description: The Harnett County Asthma Coalition, in partnership with the NC Asthma Program, is sponsoring this Asthma Coalition Building Workshop.  Participants will learn effective strategies for building and maintaining asthma coalitions and receive information about community asthma improvement projects.  There is no charge for this workshop, and the Southern Regional Area Health Education Center (AHEC) designates this educational activity for a maximum of .45 Continuing Education (CEU) credit.  A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.  To register, please e-mail your name and contact information.  Early registration is recommended, but on-site registration will be available.

Pitt County Asthma Coalition

Event Title:
Camp Coast Fall Retreat
Dates: Friday, October 3 - Sunday, October 5, 2008
Time: Weekend retreat
Location: Camp Don Lee, 315 Camp Don Lee Road, Arapahoe, NC 28510
Description: Camp Coast is a medical camping program that serves children with asthma and their families.  The fall retreat is designed to help parents and children improve their understanding of asthma and to enhance the lives of children who are coping with the disease.  Campers will enjoy a variety of recreational activities like canoeing, arts and crafts, hay rides, sailing, and swimming.
